Its been a wild week of weather, as it started off with a sudden turn to Autumn-like coolness, than a mid-week storm, and now an approaching hurricane. Oh, and did we forget to mention there was an earthquake!? We definitely felt the tremor pretty well here in the shop. Some of us have experience with earthquakes, but what a surprise to be feeling them in suburban Philadelphia.
Speaking of the earthquake, the US Geological Survey has put up this nifty poster on its website that gives you all kinds of detailed information about the East Coast Quake. Might be a neat thing to have printed. Just saying!
In printing news, is fluff costing your business in its printing projects? Here is a great article from Paperspecs on how to cut the fluff and save your company time and money when getting materials printed. The key points are of course, think ahead, be prepared and communicate with your printer early and often.
And in the realm of inspiration this week, check out the beautiful type on these wood blocks by artist Jason Gomez (Via Oh So Beautiful Paper).
Locally for the weekend, although Irene seems intent on making this Sunday a washout, the Autumn air has us primed to get out and about this weekend. Our suggestion is to head to Shofuso in Fairmount park to experience Unknown Anime. The space will be featuring a series of little-seen animation from Japan in the 1920’s through 1950’s as part of an ongoing series of film screenings called Unknown Japan. The series is put on in conjunction with Cinedelphia and the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia. This should be a great bit of Japanese cultural history and offer some unique views into the history of animation.
And in addition, if you have never been to Shofuso, it really is a remarkable space that recreates a bit of traditional Japanese architecture right here in Philadelphia. A great place to visit on any day.
Enjoy your weekend!
