Trimming Basics:

• Paper companies often only sell certain unique papers  in large ‘parent size’ sheets. We then have to cut these sheets down to a smaller size that runs on one of our presses. This means we can offer you a wider selection of papers than the average copy shop.
• In order to print more efficiently and economically, we print an item in multiples on a given sheet of paper. This is a process called ganging up. Afterwards, we cut these apart and trim them down to their final finished size.
• After, printing, some projects may need trimming in order to move them along to other finishing services such as folding, binding, or gluing.
• After we bind a booklet, we use a special trimming device that makes all 3 sides of a book or catalog look clean and pretty.
• Trimming is also used in combination with finishing work like gluing, so that certain forms might be married together. For example we might glue a shorter customer form on top of a longer form so they easily separate for record-keeping.
